Join The Search For Another Earth

Join the search for

another earth

Our generation has a unique opportunity to discover Earthlike planets around other stars, and Project Blue could make this breakthrough.

Project Blue has a team of expert scientists working on a state-of-the-art telescope to locate and capture the first “pale blue dot” image of another Earth.

We recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to get our global community of space enthusiasts involved in this unique mission of exploration. Please join us!

  • October 12th //A generous donor has pledged to match dollar-for-dollar until we meet our our $175,000 goal on IndieGoGo!  This means that every dollar a backer contributes now equals $2 toward the final $80,000.
  • September 12th // BoldlyGo Institute and NASA Sign Space Act Agreement for Joint Cooperation on Project Blue Mission. Read more on SpaceRef and SpaceNews
  • September 6th // Project Blue is Live on Indiegogo! Join the search for another Earth by helping fund the mission Phase A.
  • August // The Team is Growing! Project Blue Welcomes Dr. Maggie Turnbull and Dr. Eduardo Bendek to its Team.
  • August // Harris Corporation completes a Pre-Phase Studies of the Project Blue observatory.

Project Blue is a new science initiative to capture the first photograph of a potential Earth-like planet orbiting another Sun-like star. The mission aims to launch a lightweight space telescope to directly image exoplanets around Earth’s nearest star system, Alpha Centauri. With a budget the fraction of the cost of a mid-size astrophysics mission, and a planned launch by the end of the decade, this venture represents an ambitious leap forward in low-cost, high-impact space exploration. Through active collaboration between research institutions, universities, private industry and citizens, Project Blue seeks to make space exploration a participatory, collective endeavor and inspire millions worldwide to engage in scientific inquiry.

The consortium

Project Blue is led by a consortium of leading space, science, and research institutions dedicated to accelerating the search for potentially habitable worlds in our galaxy. The consortium was founded by BoldlyGo Institute, Mission Centaur, the SETI Institute, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell and will be steered by a Science & Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) composed of experts immersed in the excitement and challenge of taking a picture of an Earth-like planet in another star system.
